Great poem, Paul! I love those 13-syllable lines. Michael Waters says that alternating lines of 13 and 7 syllables come closer to American speech than any other metrical scheme. I think “Burnham’s Island” is pitch-perfect. Those 13-count lines are usually followed by longer ones which can be broken down into 2 7-8 syllable lines, achieving the same result. Bravo!
